Images and video clips of monarchs, coronation ceremonies and the Crown Jewels will be projected onto the Tower of London in a new light show this autumn.

Crown and Coronation is a sound and light installation put together in a collaboration between Historic Royal Palaces and Luxmuralis — the artistic company currently renowned for immersive installations inside churches and cathedrals, such as Space, The Universe and Everything at St Martin-in-the-Fields earlier this year.

This new installation, however, features projections on the external walls of Tower buildings, including the nigh-on 1,000-year-old White Tower. Crown and Coronation takes the form of self-guided trail through the inner ward of the Tower to experience the lights and soundtrack, and includes access to the Crown Jewels Treasury.

It'll happen across nine nights in November, and will take about an hour to see it all. Though King Charles III's coronation feels like a distant memory for most us now, we reckon this'll still be popular: last November, the Tower of London hosted another light show, About Us, which depicted the history of the universe, and it was spellbinding:

The Tower of London is just the first stop on Crown and Coronation's nationwide tour — details of other locations haven't yet been announced, but keep an eye on the Luxmuralis website for updates.

Crown and Coronation takes place at the Tower of London, 17-25 November 2023. Tickets are £19.50 adult/£12.50 child (age 5-15) and are available now.
