Seen the West End's first ever Ramadan lights yet?
Eid celebrations return to Trafalgar Square on 29 April 2023, with a day of Islamic-inspired music, food and family activities.
Eid al-Fitr (the Festival of Sweets) marks the end of the fasting/praying/reflecting period of Ramadan for Muslims. It falls on Friday 21 April in the UK, and Eid in the Square will be celebrated in Trafalgar Square the following weekend.
There's plenty for everyone to get stuck into, with a show hosted by Ali Official and Mariah Idrissi, including:
- Performances from MoYah, The Khan Brothers Qawwali Group, Silk Road Collective and RnB legend, FaceSoul.
- Poetry, comedy and acoustic performances from Rumi's Cave Open Mic.
- Eats including Indian street food from Mr Bombay, Silk Road goodies from Oshpaz Uzbek Street Food, and Somali treats from Hooyo East.
- The Inspiring Muslim Awards, celebrating unsung heroes nominated by Londoners.
- A dedicated kids zone with calligraphy, storytelling, drama and poetry workshops.
- Mehndi (a form of temporary body art) and face painting.
- Fencing sessions with Muslim Girls Fence.
- Workshops from the New Crescent Society, on how to sight the Eid moon.
- A 'Colours of Eid Parade' grand finale, featuring a sea of stunning costumes led by Dhol drummers walking through the Square.
There's plenty more too — check out the full lineup.
In previous years the London Eye has been illuminated with a crescent moon light display to mark Eid al-Fitr — so look out for that as well.
